Interclub Karate Rules

Entry Criteria & Categories

Competitors must hold active membership in an accredited karate association. Valid medical clearance and rank documentation are required. Participation is strictly limited to authorized age groups to maintain safety and competitive balance.

The Interclub tournament utilizes a tiered weight system across all divisions. Separate brackets exist for men and women, ranging from flyweight up to the open levels. Official weigh-ins occur twenty-four hours before the tournament start time.

Athletes failing to meet their declared weight during the initial check have two hours to adjust or will be disqualified. Competitor ID cards must be worn and displayed at all times when moving through the tournament facility grounds.

A formal code of conduct is enforced for all participants. Highest levels of respect toward referees, instructors, and opponents are required. Violations of these sportsmanship standards lead to immediate removal from the active brackets.

Points System & Performance

Matches are decided by a point-based system focused on technical precision and controlled power. Waza-ari and Ippon are determined by a four-judge panel and a mats-side referee. All strikes must land on legal targets with total control.

Attacks to the throat, spine, or joints are strictly prohibited.

Scorekeeping occurs live at the official table. If scores remain equal after two minutes, an extension round begins immediately. The first fighter to land a valid scoring technique in this period is declared the winner via sudden death.

Required safety equipment includes approved mitts, shin protectors, and gum shields. All gear must be certified by the technical officials prior to match starts to confirm that every athlete is protected according to event standards.

Time Limits & Formal Appeals

Preliminary bouts are scheduled for one two-minute round of non-stop action. Clock pauses only occur for injuries or referee intervention. Championship matches for the top seeds are extended to three minutes for tactical depth.

Coaches can file a formal dispute if they note a technical error in the scoring administration. Complaints must be lodged within ten minutes of a match ending and require a deposit that is returned only if the ruling is overturned.

Video playback for officials is reserved for semi-final and final matches in pro categories. In all other bouts, the officiating team's decision is absolute. Passive play or avoiding engagement will result in immediate time penalties.

Certified medical staff are stationed at every mat to handle trauma or injury. If a medic advises that a fighter should stop, the referee ends the bout immediately. Health and long-term recovery are the top priorities for all events.

Apex I Regulations

The Apex I professional league sets a new benchmark for elite karate, blending traditional WKF principles with high-octane intensity. Every competitor is expected to maintain the highest level of technical skill, physical conditioning, and strategic depth necessary for the high-stakes broadcast environment of the Apex stage.

Athletes in the Open Weight division are exempt from specific limits but might undergo rigorous hydration and medical screening. Failing the physiological readiness check or missing the official weigh-in window results in immediate forfeiture of the bout. Safety remains the absolute priority, ensuring every warrior competes at their natural peak capacity without risking health.

Equipment standards for Apex I are strictly enforced to minimize injury risks while maximizing performance. Athletes must utilize WKF approved kumite gloves, reinforced shin-instep guards, and personalized dental protection. The required uniform is a traditional WKF Kumite Karate-gi, designed to endure the high-friction grips and explosive strikes characteristic of this elite competition level, ensuring durability under extreme sporting conditions.

Scoring within Apex I balances clean technical percussion with visible impact control. Judges utilize a digital real-time interface to track every successful exchange, emphasizing precision and dominance. While legitimate force is expected, techniques deemed reckless or intended to cause permanent injury are penalized heavily. This transparent system allows fans and competitors to follow the score progression as the battle for the championship unfolds.

Designed to test ultimate endurance, the tournament progresses from 3-minute preliminaries to a 3-round championship format:

  • Scoring: Points carry over; the highest cumulative score at the end of Round 3 takes the victory.

  • Penalties: Standard WKF progression applies (3 Chui, 1 Hansoku-Chui, Hansoku), with a -2 point penalty per subsequent round (minimum score: 0).

Whoever claims the Apex I belt proves themselves to be the ultimate resilient and tactical champion.
